Roadies - Are they ever seen on roads?

mtv roadies
The road crew (or roadies) are the technicians who travel with a band on tour, usually in sleeper buses, and handle every part of the concert productions except actually performing the music with the musicians. This is how the wikipedia chooses to define the game that is to go international in the currently on air 5th season. But tell me now, is it not just another K-serial in making, with no major difference being made to society with them hardly ever being on the road, no work, no social service and no definitely music production. The only music they are seen facing is from the mastermind of the show Raghu Ram who never fails to tell them amidst the famous beeps, how absolutely ridiculous and spineless this fresh batch of roadies is.

Girls bickering over who is more beautiful than whom and guys scheming with a very feminine and vamp-ish disposition. Is this what Indian youth is about? Every single episode makes up for quite a real-time fun and laugh moment but tell me, could this popularity not be used to generate a message more worthwhile? Can it not be used as a place to really make a difference? These roadies are never seen on the road and thank god they are not, because these roadies are not even street-smart!

An absoulute waste of airtime is what i think, the roadies show really is. It is one reality show where the participants go to extreme levels to ensure they look absolutely stupid, which i frankly think they really are. But, even after all this, their hilarious stupidity and ”bitching” , drives audiences, and that includes me to watch the shows. Try as i can, i can’t really stop watching and i think this is what drives the show. Looking at people back stabbing each other gives the audiences, that includes me, a perverse joy, even a jubilition and a sense of well being, sometimes even disgust, and more often than not i find myself to be taking sides with one roadie or other. Escapism, this is what roadies brings to the table, and that i think is a reason for the huge number of people it manages to attract to watch it’s show. All said, i still think the entire bunch of roadies are @#$!@#%$$^*^#@#$%&@$$^%&*&^^.,.I really don’t wish to get banned on Instablogs ;),.,.,have i just spoken a lil too much.,.,nevermind ;)

You are not the only one Jayprashanth...The show really sucks. Specially the man who brags’ i make this shit’, Raghu guess what the name is. I wish he comes for an audition here and slaps me the way he did on the Bangalore edition/audition... swear that gob would never get the part after that recorded.

For the makers of the show, being aggressive is being abusive...no quality, its absolute crap... The only good part is Ranvijay, for he talks well.

I know the utter disregard that oozes out of the auditions makes one think how publicity-hungry and fame-thirsty is the Indian youth to go out there and take such treatment from people they barely know and who, if I may say so, are not erudite enough to judge anyone at the drop of hat. It is ridiculous. It makes for an interesting watch but I am wonder if it would not be a good idea to promote something more worthwhile alongside than Race - that rave and mindless movie.

Thats one dumb show, people surely love it but I hate it like anything. There’s nothing real about that reality show (as in most cases).

I just cant stand that stupid thing, only God knows how and why people giving auditions tolerate them (hosts) :|

Hey it is really interesting seeing so many views, and almost all negative. But by being so emotional, or I should say aggressive, about it we ourselves are making it a hit.

All they want is TRP. They don’t care whether you love them or hate them.

I must say hats off to the producer and Raghu because they know how to glue people to the channel.

Indeed such shows are insipid. I fail to understand that how these shows survive? May be their sponsors are not aware of low response which such show generate. Not to mention that ever since Roadies is on air MTV has almost forgotten to screen songs. Whenever I switch to MTV Roadies is on. Would someone tell MTV that please stop screening such programmes?

I feel ashamed to say that the Gen X of this country other than we here at instablogs (lol...)lack common sense. A show which should be disregarded as a complete waste of time, draws them crazy to the limit where they discuss it over a cup of coffee in the evenings. Does anyone tune in to Discovery or Nat Geo and have the programmes aired on them, discussed. Try doing it and most of them would have you ignored, dubbing you as some sort of a geek; some kinda philosopher...huh!

i dont agree that Roadies is a sheer waste of time..come to think of it, the show does have a message- it shows how dumb, worthless, aimless and naive Indian youth can be ....imagine people auditioning for this game because they want to ”do something” and ”prove themselves”...bah! Girls fighting over padded bras and guys fighting over the girls...the youth of India sure needs to go IQ shopping! however, its fun to watch...

@ suchi
So what message does the show have for you when u see dumb people fighting over crappy issues? If a bunch of fools on TV act barbarously that does not mean the youth of this country is dumb and there is a need for reforms. I would prefer My India Report anytime over Roadies. If they fail to convey a message, at least they educate, unlike roadies which isn’t worth a single watch.

They have a set of defined rules and if you don’t qualify on those terms they dub you as foolish. Everyone has qualities and if they don’t gel with those required to be a roadie, it doesn’t make you dumb.

Complete bullshit. Programs like these neither require any brains nor any intellect for either making or watching. Crowning the effect of the idle box such nonsensical shows make the youngsters who comprise the mass viewers of such shows even more flimsy, hypocritic and lazy and devoid of sensible thinking.

get the carcasm pal! however, everything does not have to be ”educative”. some things are just for relaxation and fun. Roadies is just a game..it is not meant to convey a message in the first place. millions in our country are addicted to cricket..how educative or worthwhile is that?

At least they don’t fight over padded bras and females in cricket. It mars the spirit of the very word game. This new technique of seeing people fight over nothing sounds a weird way to relax pal and as far as Fun is concerned, there is nothing in it that amuses me.

And just as an after thought it was you Shuchi who mentioned..’the show does have a message’.

The makers of Roadies on MTV deserve a tight s... for thinking viewers to be fools that’ll accept anything presented to them. An astutely devised concept to befoul the competition based shows, and on top of that, demanding people to vote for the idiots.

@ Ranita, thanx for appreciation, i m feelin like adding some more. The judges in auditions were looking, in a way, for such contenders who could utter foulest ever language to prove that they were the real machos. Expecting them to be as bestial as they could. What an idea is that to alter the definition of being ruf’n’tuf. The worst and the most senseless T V series, I ever been a witness to.

They play for a cause and that is making their country proud not to win 5 lakh rupees after abusing the shit outa each other. It is a game of endurance, a game of wit. You got to have nerves of steel to counter the pressure on field... I know where you see the sporty spirit so fret it.

@ Shuchi, I seriously don’t want to change the direction of debate. Please, don’t compare this worthless show with a game that has now become a religion in India. Quoting Ranita, ”Complete bullshit” that’s what comes to my mind also after watching such an abominable and degraded concept forcefully being thrown to public.

Suchi, I don’t think that Indian youth is that dumb but they pay them to be so. Atleast I hvn’t seen many around me.

And saying that Indian youth is dumb and stupid by watching a stupid show like Roadies is dumb enough in itself :P

i see people getting worked up over my remarks on cricket (?) well, coming back to the point- i did not mean to generalise the youth of india- we all fall into that category don’t we? you get all kinds everywhere. as for roadies, the game is meant just for fun..take it or leave it.

Oh, and just for record, Cricket requires talented people, it’s not all about mud-slinging. It’s a sport and maybe it’s got nothing educational but for many kids of today they are inspirations, few of these inspired today will be country’s future in cricketing world in coming tomorrow.

Thats probably the opinion which i was looking for Shuchi...Never meant to offend u by any of my remarks either...This is truly something meant to kill your time...’take it or leave it is the best definition’...At peace finally, i hope so:)

Well, I agree with whatever you have out in light but come to think of it...aren’t the youth exactly how they come out on the show...

If you aren’t the manipulator, you are the victim, but you are part of the game most of the times. What the show highlights...abuses, manipulations, bitching, scheming is what is going on in the larger part of youth...

I wont say that it is a must watch, that’s all up to you but I would definitely say that the producers have done a good job. MAybe the tasks, other part and parcel of the show is crap or whatever but I would like to make a point here but the show presents a greater truth to us...which is the larger part of Indian youth...that too shamelessly...right on our faces...

I don’t think that large part of Indian Youth would like to get humiliated in front of Billions. Unless they are told to do so. I think that this humilation faced by them is just a part of the script. And there is no denying that these Reality shows are anything but real.

All means to stardom is what makes these roadies on the loose. If they are happy doing the shows, so be it.

It is their choice anyway. So let us support their endeavor. But if they are behaving out of the normal sphere, then there should be some censorship in a sense.

See, thats exactly what I said its another version, more chic and branded actually, of the K serials, it has comebacks, dramas, tears and back stabbing, the only difference being that its younger, Raghu Ram is under the garb of some reality show is just yet another Ekta Kapoor.
